YONG PENG
VP SOFTWARE
Yong is a software professional with over 15 years of experience developing and leading complex software development projects. Since January 2015, Yong has served as VP of Software Development for ScaleFlux responsible for all layers of software design and development.
Prior to ScaleFlux, he was Sr. Software manager at SanDisk Cooperation Engineering where he lead software team on system and application development of MLC/TLC NAND for company’s most profitable flash products. Previous to SanDisk, Yong was a key software contributor at SandForce Inc., where he focused on the FTL design, performance tuning, as well as different flash media boot up on company’s flagship SSD products. SandForce delivers industry first 100K IOPS SATA SSD. Yong was also Sr. Software manager at Marvel Cooperation where he performed software system development on SCSI, SATA interface for storage devices. He is an expert on algorithm acceleration, implementation of algorithms on multi-core processors and other programmable platforms. Yong holds MS and BS degree in EE from Tsinghua University of China.

TONG ZHANG
CHIEF SCIENTIST
CO-FOUNDER
Dr. Tong Zhang is a well-established researcher with significant contributions to the areas of data storage systems and VLSI signal processing. Dr. Zhang is a co-founder and Chief Scientist of ScaleFlux, responsible for developing key techniques and algorithms for Computational Storage products and exploring their optimal use in mainstream application domains such as database.
He is currently a Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). His current and past research span over a wide range of areas, including database, filesystem, solid-state and magnetic data storage devices and systems, digital signal processing and communication, error correction coding, VLSI architectures, and computer architecture. He has published over 150 technical papers at prestigious USENIX/IEEE/ACM conferences and journals with the citation h-index of 36, and has served as general and technical program chairs for several premier conferences. Among his many research accomplishments, he made pioneering contributions to establishing the research area of flash memory signal processing and enabling practical implementation of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codecs in commercial data storage and communication systems. He received two best paper awards and has over 20 issued/pending US patent applications. He holds BS/MS degrees in EE from the Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, and PhD degree in ECE from the University of Minnesota.

FEI SUN
VP ENGINEERING
CO-FOUNDER
Dr. Fei Sun is an accomplished technology pioneer in data storage industry. As Head of Engineering at ScaleFlux since 2014, he drives all aspects of ScaleFlux’s engineering strategies and execution.
Prior to ScaleFlux, he was a senior manager in storage division at Marvell Semiconductor, where he led a key team with 20+ engineers to develop high performance SSD controllers. His team developed flagship SSD controllers including industry's 1st PCIe SSD controller which was widely deployed in MacBooks, and NVMe based PCIe SSD controller which integrated Marvell's NANDEdge error-correcting technology. He also led the team to develop Marvell's 3rd generation SATA controller which is in mass production with top tier customers. Dr. Sun holds 10+ US patents, and has published over 20 referred papers in the area of VLSI signal processing in storage. He is the recipient of awards including the 2005 low power design contest award from the International Symposium on Low Power Electronics and Design (ISLPED2005), and the 2007 Allen B Dumont Prize from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). Dr. Sun holds Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from RPI, and M.S./B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong Univiersity.

YANG LIU
CHIEF ARCHITECT
CO-FOUNDER
Mr. Yang Liu has been working on storage, networking and graphics industry for over 10 years, as architect and developer. Yang co-founded ScaleFlux in Oct. 2014. As chief architect, he is driving the architecture and engineering efforts to help company delivering the most cutting-edge storage computing products.
Prior to ScaleFlux, Yang held various engineer positions and made significant contributions in LSI, Sandforce, Juniper Networks and S3 Graphics. He has successfully designed and brought up more than 10 PCIe networking and storage systems with high performance and aggressive power management schemes. Dr. Liu holds Ph. D. degree in EECS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where his research interests include low-power VLSI architectures on variation-tolerant DSPs, 3D integrated digital systems, high-performance communication and signal processing circuits. Dr. Liu has published 13 academic technical papers and filed many patents.
